Spring Forward

Spring is busting out all over in my corner of the world, and I love every green and flowering minute of it. The season lauds the awakening of the earth, the rebirth of nature, and an influx of energy after such a long winter’s nap. The spring season signals a time when I have an uncontrolled desire to clear out the old, cull the excess, and scrub everything that doesn’t run away first (the dogs are safe, for now, but they did just have a day at the groomers last week). All of that would explain my absence from this space for the last two weeks, yet there is more to that story in all that is springing up here.

Let’s talk about that for a moment. Some folks have asked if I have stopped writing as much as before. The answer is no, in fact, I’m writing more than ever. The difference is that you may not see it here, on this webpage. You will, however, see my efforts in other places in the world, which will be noted on the ‘articles’ tab at the top (or click here). With the dawn of 2016, I made a conscious decision to put more effort on publishing work beyond the self-edited, self-published blog that goes through no more collaborative effort than me reading it out loud to the dogs prior to pressing ‘publish.’ Writing can be a very solitary activity, and if left unchecked, can dull the senses to coaching by others. Without input, a bit of critique, and meaningful collaboration, experiencing growth in any pursuit may be in danger of stagnation.

More is coming, I will tell you, and it will be revealed when the time is right. Spring is signaling an emergence of new growth in more than just nature. It is a time when we can all look at our lives and make a conscious effort to effect change, growth, or newness. Give yourself permission to change, to take a different path, or to try something you have never tried before. What better time to do that than spring?

Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come. — Robert Shuller

  1. I love reading this and I can’t tell you how much I love that you made that decision at the dawn of this new year. Of course, I had a little heads-up as to why you have been away from this delightful space and nothing makes me more happy than knowing you are pouring your writing efforts into those other areas!
The signs and feel of autumn and winter are appearing all around us here too and every part of me is longing for that time. I’m tired and so very grateful to you for passing on that Robert Shuller quote. I needed to read that! xo
